Chart having multiple leg on X axis

    Hi,
I am trying to plot a graph which has multiple legs on X axis, so far I googled much but could not find any satisfying ans. What I want is to plot is time scale on X axis for a particular process and temp, pressure and composition on Y axis of the different legs arranged one above another.. please help me.

If I understand correctly what you want to do, Excel is not going to do this "automatically." You are going to have to tell Excel how to do this.

It would be easier to give specific suggestions if you posted a picture of what you want the plot to look like, along with a data table with a representative sample of the data you want to plot. For now, a few general suggestions/observations for doing this in Excel.

    1) The easiest way to do this in Excel might be to put each variable in its own chart embedded in the worksheet. If the three charts are arranged correctly, you should be able to see all three charts on the page/screen and see the trends in the three variables with time.

    2) Plotting two Y variables against a single X is relatively easy. You simply assign one series to the primary Y axis, and assign the second series to the secondary Y axis. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the user interface in the newer versions of Excel, so I'm not sure where to find the dialog that assigns a data series to the secondary Y axis. If two of your three variables have similar values (say T ranges from 30-50 C and P ranges from 1-10 barg), then you could plot T and P on one axis, and composition on the 2nd axis.

    3) Plotting three variables on three axes is a rather involved process. It seems like I've seen tutorials on the internet, but I can't remember where I've seen them. The basic process (whether you program it in VBA or do it manually) involves:
    a) plotting two of the variables on a primary and secondary axis as described above.
    b) transforming one of the variables so it "fits" on either the primary or secondary axis.
    c) creating a dummy series that you can plot and label as a 3rd "axis".

Sounds like you need panel charts.
