Simple Chart won't show proper y-axis labels

I can't understand why this isn't working for me. Every video and tutorail I've seen says this should work but isn't. I need a line or scatter chart showing this basic information:

    Year Vacancy
    2005 12.2%
    2006 12.7%
    2007 15%

I want the perecentages to show on the x-axis and I want the labels on the Y axis to show the years. However, the best I can get is only the percentages on the X and number 1-8 on the Y. What am I doing wrong? I included a screenshot.

Re: I just need a chart

    Hello

Its best to use a Scatter Graph for this, Right click on the graph select data source and edit, you are then able to manually select where you want the data

    Ben,
thanks for your quick repsonse. That is what I've been trying to do but it is only showing those numbers along the bottom instead of the years. Could it be a formatting problem?

    Thanks again for any help.

Hi tomtheappraiser, try right clicking the chart, choose select data, click add button, choose the values (not the dates). Click the Horizontal (Category) Axis Labels and click edit, select the dates range and that should do it!

    Mordred,

I tried to do that like you said, but the edit button is greyed out. I have attached a screen shot of what happens when I click select data.

    Thanks in advance,
    Tom

you need to post example workbook as entering the data as show in your pictures results in a chart as you describe you want.

BTW normally the x axis is horizontal with category labelling and the Y axis is a vertical value axis.
    Cheers
