Creating series automatically

Hello,

I have a very long list of data with this format.

A:{Name} B:{x-axis} C: {y-axis}

What I need is a scatter plot with the x, and y - WITH each point with a legend.
So far I see that the only way to accomplish this (and kill myself) is to make a new series manually for each data point. But I am certain there is a better way, and someone here will be able to help me with this.

When I try making a normal chart, all the points come under the same series, I want each data point have a different series / name / legend.

What do I do!!!

Hello gowthamj,

take a deep breath. It can be done. If you do not want to plot each data point as an individual data series, you can use a free and excellent add-in called Chart Labeler to define the text labels for the individual data points.

Download the Chart Labeler here: http://www.appspro.com/Utilities/ChartLabeler.htm
Activate the add-in, then you'll find a new item on the Add-in ribbon. Click it and follow your nose. It's very easy to use.

Once you've applied the labels, you can send the file to people who don't have the add-in, too. You'll only need to run the add-in if you add new data points to the series.

Hi.

This is my first post.. did a search, and found this thread which describes my problem exactly!
Here's a link to an image of what it looks like - the window on the left is what Excel suggests and the one on the right I have modified manually: http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/2430/excell.png .
Is there really no simpler way of doing this? It almost seems as if I am selecting data the wrong way.. or a sneeze would fix it any second.. maybe I should put the names in a column and the x and y values in 2 rows?! The only annoyance here, really, is that Excel selects 2 ranges for the x and y axis instead of 2 cells on the same row.

Thanks for the suggestion, but this chart is not for me - I have to instruct other people how to create them. I just generate the Excel file from a web page..
