Column chart with different amounts of data per interval

    Hello,

What I'm trying to do is simple, I hope; I have data organized according to the date they were recorded. Each day has a different amount of recorded data. I'm trying to create a column chart where the X axis would be the Days, however, when I create my graphic in Excel, it graduates at regular intervals, I would like it to graduate by Day instead. I included an Excel file as an example. (The left chart is what I currently have, the right chart is a picture of what I'm looking to obtain)

Here's a picture of what I'm looking for:

    Any help is appreciated

Re: Column chart with different amounts of data per interval

Thank you for the quick reply,

I've looked at your file, and I understand how it works. The thing is, I would like to be able to see all the days at the same time. (The grey highlight isn't important, I just wanted it to differentiate the days more easily)

I want it to be a dynamic range too, and the problem I'm having with that is I don't know how to handle the days with a dynamic range. I can do it for the "Sold" & "Bought" columns. I could change the example you sent me to have a dynamic range for days. But I don't know how I'd make them all show up at once on the chart. I'll play with it later see if I can work something out.

Again, thank you for the help, I appreciate it

Two approaches to this depending on how close you want the chart to the desired result.

You can add multiple level of axis labelling so the Days are centered across varying sizes of column groups.
Column shading can be done by adding additional column series with GapWidth set to zero.
Note you will need to move the 2 original data series to the secondary axis in order for them to appear in front of the gray shading.

Alternatively remove existing axis labeling and tickmarks and use 2 xy-scatter series to plot tickmarks and linked data labels.
You will need formula to calculate x positions for both series.
