Can anyone help me with building a chart or graph of cell phone records and text messages from cell phone bills? Let's say a call originated on September 30, 2009 at 5:18 PM and lasted for 5 minutes. I have been able to plot the date as the X axis and time as the Y axis, but am unsure how to show the duration? The idea is to show the amount of time an individual is on the phone at specific times of the day. Thanks!

see attached for the general principle, which is:
two data columns: start time of call and call duration in time format.
Then create a stacked bar chart, where the call duration is stacked on top of the start time. Format the data series for the start time with no fill and no line, which leaves the floating blocks for the calls.
This will get very messy very quickly if you include more than a day's worth of data. When you plot short things like phone call durations on a time axis that includes several days, you will hardly be able to see the individual marks for the calls, at least the short ones.
But there are ways and means of creating interactive charts that show you only a portion of the data at any one time. Come back for more of this if you need it.
