Color Fill Regions on Chart Based On Value?

Hi guys. I've been trying to figure out how to replicate a graph like the picture I have attached.

In our case, we have several switches which we have measured "actuation" voltage over several temperatures from 25 C to 140 C. So we want to somehow integrate a 3rd dimension, capacitance, like shown on the graph below. Is this possible in excel?

    Thanks in advance!

    Try the Surface chart.

Thanks for that. Is there anyway to adjust the chart size? We have about 4000+ data points to map and when we do that, the chart looks like a flat line instead of a contour map. MiniTab does this fine, but we are just using the demo so we would like to be able to do it all in Excel.

Its always better to attach sample file to do some experiment by forum member ....

The surface chart in excel plots a table of values which are plotted in categories with the colour being based on the numeric banding.

If your data source is x,y and z value you may not be able to create the chart as expected.

Re: Color Fill Regions on Chart Based On Value?

Basically, we took measurements of capacitance over voltage at 7 different temperature levels (25C,40,60,80,100,125 and 150). I have attached the spreadsheet below.

In sheet 1 is the raw data with a break around row 650. We are only interested in using the data up to that break.
Sheet 2 was trying to combine some of the data with the temperature as a catagory.
Sheet 3 has the temperatures repeated down in a column.

Well, I would upload it but I'm having some connection issues. I'll try to upload it later.

I have a similar problem here,
I have some data with (x,y) and corresponding z value. I use pivot table to arrange the data and want to use a rectangle (or a dot) with color to represent each z value.
The surface chart in excel does not seem to give correct representation of the chart as you can see in attachment.
I use conditional format to represent what I really want, but is there any better method?

Okay, I cut down the file size of the spread sheet and have attached it.

Sheet 1 has all the values in in separate columns based on temperature.

Sheet 2 has all the values going straight down with the temperature in the 3rd column.

You need to construct a table of

Row1 contains all unique Y values
Column1 contains all unique X values
Table contains maximum temperature for given X/Y value.

Re: Color Fill Regions on Chart Based On Value?

    Andy,

I am trying to create a contour of capacitance vs. temperature and voltage.

    I.E.: Temp = Y-axis, Voltage = X-axis, Capacitance = Z-axis

Also, the charts can only have a maximum of 255 data series. If I were to change either V or C into a row, it would be well over 255 series. Is this just a limitation of Excel?

Re: Color Fill Regions on Chart Based On Value?

yes 255 is the series limit.

A series can have up to 32k points, although there is another total limits so not 255*32k

The matrix I described will allow you to plot a surface chart. Albeit with the constraints of not being a true value axis in the x and y plane.

You could plot the data on sheet1 as xy-scatter lines but these output is not so much contours more like reversed s-curves
