    combine different charts

    Hello,

I would like to create a chat similar as in

    http://www.imf.org/External/Pubs/FT/.../figure1_2.pdf,

so to combine different charts on a single plot.

    Till now I was unsuccessful,

    Any ideas ?

    Cheers,
    Charles

Not sure exactly what the combined part is your are refering too.

You could create the chart with a stacked bar. The tough part is manipulating the data to plot correctly. And knowing how many series to use in order to get the colour changes.

    Re: combine different charts

    Hello,

    thank for the reply.
Acutally I put an example in the excel file.
For one time series (TS A or TS B) it is working fine (while doing a bar or surface chart). Ideally, if possible I would like to combine the time series TS A and TS B on the same one, as having two subplot but on the same chart. Attached also the example from the IMF where different time series are combined.

    Re: combine different charts

I used a stacked column chart based on all 8 columns of data.

X axis is category rather than Time series in order to avoid the gaps caused by missing dates.

    Series has gapwidth of zero.

Axis labels are provided by a xy-scatter series.

    Re: combine different charts

    Great !

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for.

    I have two small questions:

X axis is category rather than Time series: how do I convert a time series to a category while using a stacked column chart ?

This is less important, but its regarding axis labels, which are provided by a xy-scatter series. I add a new label, and increase the range of the scatter plot, but then I don't know how to incorporate the new value on the graph.

    Cheers,
    Charles

    Re: combine different charts

To change axis type, right click > chart Options > Axis > X axis > Category.

To link data labels from the xy-series to cells you can use this free addin.
    http://www.appspro.com/Utilities/ChartLabeler.htm

or do it manually by selecting each data label individually and then via the formula bar entering the sheet and cell reference.
