So in 2003, the function didnt exist, but there were plugins which did it for you. I was hoping that 07 would have this function, as so many people use n values or * for significance when they do research data graphs (or both) now i know sigmaplot does it, but i'm loathe to learn a new program. I havent found that 07 can do it yet, so is there a plugin in like xy labeller or j-walk that is '07 compatible?

that's good it does work in 07. But does it do multiple data labels? or does anyone know one that does?
What do you mean by multiple data labels?
As in having two data labels for each piece of data. ie n values and significance stars or letters to differentiate significance between groups
A point can only have 1 data label.
If you want to display multiple pieces of information in a single data label then you just need to build those bits of information in a cell and link to the cell.
If you really want 2 data labels for a single point then you will need to add a extra data series and use that to display another label.
