    Floating Bars

Trying to produce chart showing opening & closing times of stores by date in December. can anyone help? I just can't get it to do what I want which is dates along bottom and vertical floating bars (one for each store) extending from say 08:00 to 23:00. Y axis would be times and presume would need an additional X axis? Urgently needs attention - have to get this done for Monday somehow!

I'm not sure I have understood you right, but have a look at this chart and tell me if we are on the right track.

    Floating bars - multiple stores

Yes - that's the format I want. How did you get that? However, I need it to work for multiple stores (about 6 max). How would I do that? I have tried with your data - what kind of chart have you used?

The links from Oldchippy should give you an explanation.

How do you want the chart to look with all 6 stores. If you think about a 3D chart with the stores on a z-axis, like the standard 3D column chart, i think you would have problem doing this, as you are already using multiple series to build a stacked column chart.

It could be possible to place all stores side by side on the x-axis, but if you want 30 days for 6 stores this would be 180 columns on one chart. I can't se how this could be of any good use, but maybe you have a good reason to do it.

    Floating Bars - Multiple Stores

Old Chippy's info was very helpful and I can now get 1 stores data to work. However, the idea is to compare several stores opening and closing times on a chart. The data for each store is in separate tables and I have tried copying and pasting the relevant data into the chart once it has been set up. However it adds it to the "stack" and I can't make it go alongside. HEELLLP

Do you want to compare the openingtime for the stores displaying one day at a time in a sheet or do you want one mega chart with all the stores and all the dates in one chart (180 columns....) ?

As I see this you have 3 options:
Chart with all stores, one date (6 colums)
Chart with one store, all dates (30 columns)
Chart with all stores, all dates (180 columns side by side)

    What do you want ?

    Floating Bars - Multiple Stores

What I really need to be able to do is to produce a clustered stack graph (does such a thing exist?) with Opening times hidden but a bar for each store in each date.

I used the Store column instead of the Date column as X-axis.
Sort by Date first then by Store number.
Then I inserted blank lines in the list to make the space between the dates.

Glad that I understood what you wanted and could help you
Hope you can manage to reproduce this in your own chart.

    forgot one thing:

If you use the Store column and the Date column as X-axis label you will get the date to show together with the store number on the x-axis in your chart. Just remember to insert a space caracter in the blank cells in Store Column. This makes the labels look better.

Question More Help with Floating Bar Charts

I found this string very useful. But still have a problem.
I'm trying to create a vertical floating bar chart. But with side by side comparisons of two data series.

I followed the advice in the string and created the chart with both data series. But I would like to color the bars of the two series.

I have attached the file I am working with. You can see that I merged the two data series to create the side by side charts. But how do I show this with two different color bars for each series.

    Thanks!

If you click on the series in the chart, the whole series are highlighted, click again and this selects just one of the floating columns. Now you can change the colour, but you will need to do that for each.
