    Smile pivot table

What a great feature the pivot table is! I have successfully set up my row and column headers, but I am having a problem with the data area. In my original worksheet, the one i'm working off of, there is a column INVOICE AMOUNT which is in the format 21.35 (a decimal dividing dollars and cents)

However, when i use the pivot table wizard to click and drag INVOICE AMOUNT into the data section of the pivot table, it fills the table with a number between 1 and 8. (I assume this is the total # of invoices per month per zip code.)

How do I keep the data in its original format (dollars and cents) when moving it from the original column into the data section of the pivot table?

Any suggestions? If this doesn't make sense, i will try to clarify.

    Pivot Table Data Area

I am running into the same issue. My data is dollar amounts (some calculated by a formula) and when I drop it into the pivot table is shows numbers that appear to be a count of instances that match the row criteria rather than the actual dollar amounts. The goal is for the dollar amounts to show as they relate to the Rows, then total those up.

Thank you in advance for any help.

    Solved it.

I decided there must be something in the Pivot Table settings telling it to Count rather than Sum.
    Found it...
Clicked the Field Settings button on the Pivot Table Toolbar and selected Sum rather than Count from the Summarize list. Thought the default for Pivot Table was Sum...
My next step is to tie data from 4 worksheets into the table. Wish me luck.
