    Postive and Negative Values

    All,

This may be more basic than I think it is but I'm struggling! What I would like is to plot two sets of data for the same labels on one graph. For example, the legend has 5 labels and the x axis has 4 categories. Within each category I would want to plot positive AND negative values for each of the 5 labels (lined up above and below each other). How do I go about doing this?

Not sure I've explained this very well!

Hopefully you get the idea, if not I'll try and rephrase.

2nd try (in case you saw the first)

If you use 'lines' with a negative and positive option on a series the line will flow across the positive points or drop to zero, either way will not look nice.

If I can discover how I managed to 'drop' the 'Z' reading on the attached that might prove useful to your quest.

I have played with the attached, a chart found somewhere a while ago as a 2 axis chart.

It is displaying 'above' and 'below' albeit in the opposite colour to what I would prefer, but I am not sure of your requirement, or the suitability of a bar graph in relation to those.

Interesting way to display 'stuff' (a technical term)

    Bryan,

Many thanks for your help. The example you have provided is good to know but not quite what I was after. I guess the main problem I have is that doing it that way I have extra labels in the legend which I do not need and also in an ideal world I would like the corresponding bars (positive and negative for each legend category) to be aligned under/above the other. I guess nothing can be perfect though!

What I require is really hard to describe so I have sketched it out and scanned it in! Apologies for the poor drawing!!!! I am beginning to think it is not possible to do and might have to take a different approach.

Thanks in advance for any on going help.

I guess the 'above' and 'below' could be colour-matched, but it looks like I thought yours was trying to look

    Bryan,

Thanks, yeah thats pretty much how I'd like it to look, as you say with colour matching and no 'duplicate' lables in the legend. I have 12 labels set for the legend so to have a duplicate for each would obviously take it to 24.... a bit messy! I could hide the legend and use text box labels but the bars are so thin, its wasn't really practical.

I had to come up with an alternative in the end but I'll definitely give your idea a shot just in case I should need it again in the future.

Thanks for all your help over the last day or so,

    GW

OK _ that's the 'slip' edition, it uses 'Primary' and 'Secondary' each with a series range. Secondary use 'Reverse' and set bit axis labels to -min and +max of the same numbers (the largest number + or -)

Just add Series to suit, and set your areas as required (well you already have the areas)

Watch which you pick for Primary, I got mine reversed, the primary was negative.

Looked good though (for something never known before)
