Number formatting: Not dividing by thousand in graph

    Hi

I have a pivot graph as shown below. I want the number label to have a format divided by one thousand.
    Excel graph wrong formatting.jpg

From what I have found on the internet, to divide by thousand in number formatting you have to add a comma at the end, e.g. "# ##0,". However, I have a Norwegian Excel. Well, the language is in English, but the number format is different. In Norway, we use the comma as a decimal separator. 32,5 is the same as 32.5 in English. It took some time, and I found that instead of a comma to divide by thousand the "Norwegian Excel" uses just space to divide. If I have n spaces I get the same as 10^(-3*n). However, this doesn't work for the number format in the graph, unfortunately.

Can anyone help me with this odd problem? Thanks in advance

We might need a better description, or even a sample spreadsheet uploaded to the forum. I cannot recreate the problem. When I apply a suitable "divide by 1000" format to a pivot chart, it formats correctly.

Thank you so much for the reply!

    I have modified your file a bit(pivotchartaxisformatexample.xlsx).

The pivot table has the number formatting I am after, but the chart labels doesn't. In the pivot table the numbers are divided by 1000, but when I try to do the same with the chart labels something strange happen.

I am using Excel 2013, btw.

    Still cannot recreate the issue.

If I select the data labels -> Right click -> Format Data labels -> Number format -> Format as #,##0, (just like the cells in the pivot table) or select the "Linked to Source" check box, then the numbers in the data labels look the same as the numbers in the pivot table.

You do not describe the exact sequence of steps you are going through to apply these number formats, but there appears to be something about that process that is not working correctly on your computer. Carefully check the procedure you are using to apply number formats to the chart elements to make sure you are following the correct procedure.

    That's strange!

In the picture below I have tried to illustrate the problem more clearly. The numbers in the pivot are formatted to be divided by thousand, and the labels and y-axis are "Linked to source".

Even if I try to use the same custom formatting for the labels as the numbers in the pivot, I only get the same strange formatting as you see in the picture.

I think is bug. If you will format axis Display units to Thousands and link data label format to source, I believe it will format as you wish.
