Question Changing Vertical Axix Text Orientation

    Hi,

I created a chart that shows Planned vs. Actual or Still Pending durations.

I attached a file for example

In the chart, I combined the Tasks & Original Request Date because I want to show the start date

Is there a way to make the vertical axis text both horizontal?

    Thanks

Right-click on the area where your vertical axis lies, and then choose Format Axis at the bottom of the list in the drop-down box. Then click on Alignment, and then in the Text Direction box choose Rotate All Text 270 degrees from the drop-down, then click Close.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Pete_UK & Others

    Thanks for answering.

In the chart or for the Horizontal (Category) Axis Labels), I selected or combined the Actions Items & Original Request Date columns.

Going through your steps, I can change the orientation of the date but not the Task descriptions. I'm looking to have both horizontal so the chart is easier to read.

    Is this doable?

Re: Changing Vertical Axix Text Orientation

Sorry, I thought you wanted them both vertical. In the attached file, I have copied your graph below the first one, and set the lower one up with vertical axis labels, as described above. For the upper chart, I introduced this formula in cell H18:

    =C18&" "&CHAR(10)&TEXT(D18,"mm/dd/yy")

set the cell up to wrap the contents, and then copied down. Then I changed the graph to use this column for the axis, and both entries are now horizontal. Just choose which you want and delete the other.

    Hope this helps.

Re: Changing Vertical Axix Text Orientation

    Hi Pete_UK & Others,

This function, =C18&" "&CHAR(10)&TEXT(D18,"mm/dd/yy") for the most part works great!

However, I'm quite following how the date is consistently on the 2nd line.

I used the above function in my other working template, but on the chart, the date is going across the chart or not fully showing or not fully wrapping. At the moment, I don't see how to fix.

    Please advise.

    Thanks

    Hi Pete_UK & Others,

I forgot to mention that I'm replacing the simple "Task #" in Cell C18 with longer descriptions in my other working template.

I don't know what your "other working template" is, or what your "longer descriptions" are, so I can't really advise - post another workbook.

Re: Changing Vertical Axix Text Orientation

    Hi Pete_UK & Others,

My other working template is basically the same as my example template, except with "work content" or longer descriptions.

I did manage to get the, C18&" "&CHAR(10)&TEXT(D18,"mm/dd/yy") to work. It appears my original description was too long & not wrapping on the chart.

Now that made the description shorter, it looks ok.
