Line chart ending in a vertically descending line for a payload/range diagram

I am trying to make a payload/range diagram that will end in a vertical straight line as the max range is reached, but various payloads are still allowed.

Here's a screenshot of my data and what I'm trying to accomplish:
    PayloadRangeProbs.jpg

    In this image:
#1 used column B as the data for the horizontal axis
#2 attempted to define the values for the horizontal axis using the values in Column D
#3 is the shape of chart I'm trying to achieve.

Basically, I want the line to continue moving diagonally until it hits the value at 450,550. From there I want it to go straight down. I also want the horizontal category label values to just be every 100 miles from 0-600.

Unfortunately, all I can get it to do is repeat the 550 values over and over, and I can't specify max and min values like I can on the vertical axis.

    I also

    Here are the values:

    Payload Range Horizontal
    650 0 0
    600 100 100
    575 175 200
    550 250 300
    525 325 400
    500 400 500
    475 475 600
    450 550
    425 550
    400 550
    375 550
    350 550
    325 550
    300 550
    275 550
    250 550
    225 550
    200 550
    175 550
    150 550
    125 550
    100 550

Re: Line chart ending in a vertically descending line for a payload/range diagram

If I am following correctly, it sounds like you are using a line chart when an XY scatter chart might be a better choice for chart type. An XY scatter chart would give you the kind of axis control (min, max, major unit) that you say you are looking for. In an XY scatter chart, all that is needed to get a vertical "tail" on the end is to add a final data point (450, 0) to the end of the data series.

Would you be allowed to use an XY scatter chart for this, or are you required to use a line chart?

Thanks for the suggestion. I can give it a shot and see how it works out.
