Peltier's method is interesting, but WAY too complicated and excessive for what I need.
After some searching, I found a much simpler method using the following steps to add additional axis labels to a logarithmic chart.
1. Create your chart using your primary data. On my example, the vertical axis is logarithmic and the horizontal axis is dates.
2. Create a small, two column "Axis Labels" table with either zeros or your smallest 'X' data value in the first column, and the values of the additional axis labels you need in the second (Y) column. This can get complicated. For example, if your X-axis is dates, and your smallest, left-most date is say Jan 1, 1940, then your 'X' value for that date in your "Axis Labels" table will have to be either "Jan 1 1940" or 14612.
I wanted to add ten additional axis labels so my Axis Labels table looks like this. Since my smallest 'X' data value is Jan 1 1940, the 'X' values are all 14612;

14612 500
14612 700
14612 1500
14612 2000
14612 2500
14612 3000
14612 4000
3. Right-click on your chart > Select Data > Add a new series > call it "Axis Labels", and add the series X and Y values from your version of the above table.
4. Move the mouse until you find one of your "Axis Labels" data points on the chart just outside (to the left) of the graph area, and right click. If you do this correctly, you can then see "Add Data Labels" and select it.
5. Right-click on any one of the new axis labels > select "Format Data Labels" > and change the label position to Left. With luck the chart will look like this.
6. You may need to go into "Format Data Series" and change Marker Options, Marker Fill, and Line Color to 'None or No'.
