    Unhappy High/Low Lines in graph

Attached is a random graph I made for demonstration purposes. I would like to be able to type in a high level "B13" and a low level "B14" without having to have 2 extra columns in my DATA table, I searched around everywhere and can't seem to find an answer, my boss tasked me with this and I'm getting really frustrated because I can't solve this issue, please help!

In many ways, the approach you have taken can be the easiest. If you don't want to see those two additional columns, move them to the right out of view or hide them.

If you decide you must get rid of those two columns, a technique like this should allow you to add horizontal lines using a line + XY scatter combination chart and error bars: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/...orzErrBar.html

If I hide the columns, then they also disappear from the chart I'll try the method you posted, thanks!

Go into the Select Data dialog -> Hidden and Empty Cells -> Check the box for "show data in hidden rows and columns". https://support.office.com/en-us/art...B-9CA49CB92274

Cool that works thank you, But I'd still like to get rid of the columns all together.

Peltier's essay should show you how to do that.

    Re: High/Low Lines in graph

Can you post an example where you only get vertical lines and not horizontal? Assuming you have followed the instructions correctly, you should get both vertical and horizontal error bars, which you can then adapt/format to give you horizontal lines.

Off the top of my head, the first reason I can think for getting only vertical error bars is if your chart type is line rather than XY scatter. Check the chart type for the scatter chart data series and makes sure it is scatter and not line.

    Re: High/Low Lines in graph

I cannot see the steps you took to get to this point. I would have expected:
    1) Insert error bars (note that Excel will automatically add both horizontal and vertical error bars, because it does not know how to add only the minus horizontal error bar)
    2) Select and delete the vertical error bars.
    3) Select and format the horizontal error bars.
    3a) minus error bar only
    3b) percentage of 100%.
    4) Format secondary axis system to position the point and error bar correctly.
