    Clustered Stacked Chart

    Hi,

I've been trying to create a Clustered Stacked Column chart but have been unable to achieve the desired result.

I've attached the data I'm working with. Basically, I want to show the cost of funds and overheads as one (stacked) column chart and right next to it the Interest & Fee Income - so I can compare revenue vs. expenses.
I'd also like to show the profit contribution with the Interest & Fee Income but I'm not sure that will look right.

I'd greatly appreciate any help someone could offer, as despite my efforts I'm unable to get it right.

    Thanks,
    Greg

    Re: Clustered Stacked Chart

    Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply. I've tried again with the instructions you provided, but I'm still struggling. I think because of the format of my data, which differs from the examples I've been able to find, I'm not able to relate them to my data.

To be honest I didn't get very far at all with the instruction video you provided.

Any further help would be appreciated.

    Thanks again,
    Greg

From what I have been able to gather, data layout/format is key to getting a clustered and stacked column chart. If you are truly unable to rearrange the data or a copy of the data or use formulas to arrange the data in a suitable format for your desired clustered and stacked column chart, it may be very difficult to get what you want.

Can you clarify exactly what you want? It is not clear to me how you would like to cluster and stack (which series should be "clustered" side by side and which should be stacked) these data. If you could help us see exactly what you are trying to accomplish, we may be in a better position to suggest how to obtain it.

    Re: Clustered Stacked Chart

    Hi,

I want to stack the Cost of Funds and Overhead in one column, and have that next to the Interest & Fee Income column (for each month). Effectively, what I am trying to show is the 2 expense types next to the 1 income type so I can do a visual comparison (on a % level). I've attached a rough picture of what I'm trying to achieve.

    Thanks again,
    Greg

I think this is what you want but not sure how you intend dealing with the negative values

Further to above post I've removed the negatives and added month labels

    Re: Clustered Stacked Chart

Thanks very much - that's exactly what I'm after. I think the chart will be more confusing to include the Profit Contribution (negative) data, so I'll leave that out. The only other than that I'm now trying to work out is how to centre the months so that Jul (for example) is in the centre of the Revenue & expenses as opposed to under the Expenses stacked column only.

    Re: Clustered Stacked Chart

I've done this before by creating another series putting into the primary axis (making it invisible) and making the present series secondary axis then linking the months to the new invisible series.

It's a pain to do and it will drive you crazy. I'll see if I can do it in the present format but I'll need to have a play around a bit first.

    Re: Clustered Stacked Chart

Here you go. I've left the background columns showing just so you can see what's going on. I had to make dummy data to set the background columns up to align the months. Just click on the grey columns and format to no fill to make them invisible
