Error when selecting CUSTOM TYPE in chart menu

    Hello all.
I created a custom chart type for something I was tracking and all was well for several weeks. Then I started getting this message when I clicked on the CUSTOM TYPES tab in the chart setup menu to have the chart automatically formatted (see sheet 2 of the attached file for a screen shot of the error message). Sheet 1 of the attached file is the data I use in the chart. I suspect this has something to do with my Excel program / operating system so someone else would not get the error if they tried to create a chart with their Excel program.
If any of you have seen this error or know how to get rid of it, please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Numcruncher1

It looks like Excel has disabled the file containing the custom charts. Click Help - About Microsoft Excel, click the 'Disabled Items...' button and then try re-enabling the file.

Re: Error when selecting CUSTOM TYPE in chart menu

    Thanks for the reply.
I tried your suggestion but when I then tried to select CUSTOM TYPE I got the "Excel has encountered a problem and must close" error. After that things were back to the original error.

I searched and found the XL8GALRY.XLS file that was listed in the Disabled Items window and renamed it so Excel could not open it. I then tried to select CUSTOM TYPE and it seems like things work ok. I am not sure what the XL8GALRY.XLS file is. I assumed it contained the custom types that I have created but when I open the CUSTOM TYPE window now, my custom types are there and they work.

I think I will leave things the way they are now and see if I encounter any problems down the road. If anyone knows what the XL8GALRY file is for, let me know.

    Thanks for the help,
    David

Re: Error when selecting CUSTOM TYPE in chart menu

The XL8GALRY.xls file is where custom chart types are stored in 2003 and prior.
