How to find the source data used for Pivot chart in Excel 2010?

    Hi Forum,

My previous co-worker has produced several pivot charts.

I was trying to find out what pivot table data sources s/he has used for pivot charts.

1). I right clicked on the chart.
2). Then clicked on “Select Data”
3). Then “Select Data Source” dialogue box appeared.
4). Then there is a box called “Chart Data Range”
5). In that box, the name of Excel file and the specific tab used for creating the chart are shown in grey colour.

The name of the excel file and the name of tab the co-worker used for the pivot chart are too long to fit in “Chart Data Range”, so I can see only a part of the story.

    Q:
From 5) above, I can guess the specific tab used for the pivot chart but that specific tab is having a number of pivot tables, which makes me difficult to find which exact pivot table was used.

    Is there any other method?

    Thanks for your expertise.

I took a few swings at trying to produce a string of the chartsource but have failed.

You can always open up the xml hidden inside the file and view it manually.

I use a zip utility, like PKZip to navigate to the file, open it, and check the xl-charts source.

If you want to, you can always just attach the file and I could just tell you which.

Alternatively, you can always just save a copy of the workbook with a really tiny filename so you can see the full reference.
