Problem with field and filter in pivot chart

Hi I am currently working on a data report for a support ticket system. Each ticket is constructed by many fields such as Submit date, username, message, email and etc. I am supposed to add a date filter and a month filter for each pivot chart I created. If I just drag Submit date Field into Filter, there will be duplications on the filter list if there are more than 2 tickets submitted on one day, which is unwanted. Also the format of submite date is mm/dd/yyyy, how to convert the format into mm/yyyy?

Can you not add a helper column in the source data to convert random dates into Months (mm/yyyy)?
