Group dates in pivot table

dear friends,
i have a list of dates in dd/mm/yyyy and mm/yyyy formats. i am unable to group these when i put them into a pivot table. it says 'cannot group selection'. I have checked: there are no blanks, and formatted all cells as dates. can you pl see attached and help to group in pivot table.

Your dates looks good, and I have no issue grouping them in Pivot Table.
May be you can describe how you group them?

In order to group dates, you need to put that field in the rows area of your pivot table. After grouping it there, you can move it to the values area if you want.

thanks for your messages. still unable to do it. have excel 2007, is that why? have tried to save as 'excel format' and removed 'compatibility mode'.

can you please group as months and send the file to me.

Are you still having problems grouping or has this been resolved. Many times you can receive an error if the date/time is not formatted correctly. It can also occur if you are pulling a #/DIV or other error with the group. You will need to exclude these errors and format accordingly before grouping your data.
