"Cannot group that selection" error in pivot table work-around

Hi all,

I have a pivot table where the first column contains dates of when deals have closed/won, when I try to group them by month I get the dreaded "Cannot group that selection" error. There would be blank cells in the main data as there will be deals in our system that haven't yet been closed/won - however I cannot just cleanse this data of blank cells as the data is pulled directly from our CRM system, it is a live report that updates every time someone opens it.

At the moment I am going into the report every couple of days and grouping deals manually if anything has been closed off, this isn't ideal.

Is there are macro or a workaround that would fix the grouping automatically?
