Stacked Area Chart Taper on/off issue

Perhaps then you are trying to put too much in to a single display.
Maybe show the #Engineers per time slot and the red line. Then in another chart/display allow for a more detail view of a time slot showing each engineer.

Whilst you can not easily fix the slopes on the areas without extra data or changing to column chart you could have stepped red lines by using xy-scatter and error bars. Of course this would require extra data but maybe more managible

So for example:
graph one: shows one area graph + one line = showing total engineers + total required hours

graph two: shows the stacked area graph [for one time period] + one line for total requirements [for one time period]

Is this what you mean?
