I currently have a graph that has numbe of sales up the y axis and the x axis shows months - i am wondering if this can be made to automatically update depending on what month we are currently in and only show months with data in, the graph size amending accourdingly

Quite a few examples out on the net. The websites provide better guides than what I can type here since they include pictures (and no use reinventing the wheel). Here is a site to get you started:

Your request to update depending on the month may need more information. The easiest way is to just make your data a table and then filter out blanks.
