    File size smaller after saving

    I’m new to access.
    - I saved my first database and it was 2,176 KB
    - I saved the same file under a different name and got 704 KB
    - I saved that newest file under yet another name and got 528 KB
    - I repeated this twice more and got 548 and 534 KB.

Is this anything to be concerned about or is Access just compressing the file? If the latter is the case, why does Access do this only when I save the entire file, as opposed to when I save the individual objects within it?

    Thanks

Re: File size smaller after saving

I generally run Compact and Repair on my database before creating a copy to save. After running Compact and Repair, I right click the file and send to zip, then rename my zip to include the date. It takes my 25mb front end and stores it at about 5 mb in zip.

    I wouldn't be worried.

In response to why it doesn't do it each time you click save, that would be incredibly annoying, I click save about every 30 sec it takes 5 sec or more to compact and repair, that would really slow me down. And my Front End is growing rapidly so it would only get worse.

    Hope this helps,

    Dan
