Conditional Formatting on multiple cells based on a value ia cell

    Hi Experts,

Using vlookup in cells S3 to BC3 and the majority of the values calculated match with the value in cell BF3. I am trying to highlight exceptions i.e. cells that do not match with BF3.

Is there a formula I can use in Conditional Formatting?

    Any help is appreciated.

If you highlight the cells S3 to BC3 then click on Conditional Formatting | New Rule | Use a formula... , then you can enter this formula in the dialogue box:

    =S3<>$BF3

Click the Format button | Fill tab and choose your colour, then click OK twice to exit the dialogue box. Excel will automatically adjust the cell references to suit the cells that you had selected, so you only need to do this once.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank You Pete. This worked.
I like to expand this to the whole worksheet i.e. every row (values in BF are different) so I need highlight exceptions

    How can I do this.

With your cursor on S3, click on Conditional Formatting | Manage Rules, then you will see the rule that you have set up. You will see that this gives the range that it applies to (i.e. S3:BC3) in the 'Refers to' box, and you can just change this range to suit other rows (e.g. S3:BC100).

Or, if you knew that you wanted to apply this over many rows, you could have selected all those cells to begin with.

    Hope this helps.
