    Time Formulas

    Formula A2*1.25
A2 is = 0:00:35 and B2 is $1.25 per minute, then answer should equal $0.44.
    With formula A2*1.25*1440, I get $0.73.
What I want is to multiply secs and mins by $1.25
Any more suggestions and why the differences?

    Re: Time Formulas

Even though Excel displays times, it actually stores times (anything less than a day) as a decimal fraction of 1.

    Examples:
    Noon...12:00:00...is actually 0.5
    4:15 AM..............is: 0.177083333333333

Perhaps if you describe what you want to do (with an example or two), we'll be able to offer specific assistance.

    Re: Time Formulas

Is 1.25 the rate per minute? If so then you need to multiply by 1440 (the number of minutes in a day), e.g. if you have the time value in A2 and the rate per minute in B2 try this formula in C2

    =A2*B2*1440

    format C2 as currency
    Audere est facere

    Re: Time Formulas

What would the formula look like if
    CELL B(time format) x CELL C = CELL D(currency format)

    Cell A Cell B Cell C Cell D
    14/02/2011 0:00:35 1.25 $0.44
    14/02/2011 0:01:58 1.25 $1.98
    14/02/2011 0:02:24 1.25 $2.80
    14/02/2011 0:03:03 1.25 $3.79
    14/02/2011 0:09:17 1.25 $11.46
    14/02/2011 0:04:27 1.25 $5.34
    14/02/2011 0:04:10 1.25 $5.13
    14/02/2011 0:03:47 1.25 $4.34
    14/02/2011 0:06:17 1.25 $7.71
    14/02/2011 0:13:06 1.25 $16.33

    14/02/2011 0:02:12 1.25 $2.65
    15/02/2011 0:07:53 1.25 $9.41
    15/02/2011 0:05:17 1.25 $6.46

    Re: Time Formulas

    Thank you Daddylonglegs.

Formula seems to work but if A2 is = 0:00:35 and B2 is $1.25 per minute then C2 should equal $0.44. With your formula I get $0.73. Why is the difference?

    There are 60 seconds in a minute rather than a 100... 35 / 60 * 1.25 = 0.73 to 2 decimals.
