    Using spreadsheet as template

    Hi there,

I have a template spreadsheet, named Template.xls, Which will always be saved at a specific location (C:\Drawing Issue Manager\template.xls )

I need a macro that , when having a spreadsheet derived from that template, when clicking a macro in the derived spreadsheet, it will create a copy of the C:\Drawing Issue Manager\template.xls ( not the derived spreadsheet), and save it at the desired location.

    is that possible?

    Cheers, Jakes

You could use the following to browse to a directory save location - I have added the current date to the filename so that way the template is not overwritten and the file saved is a unique name - you could append it with something else or remove the date part - it is up to you. You say it is a template file with xls extension however I am unsure if you are using Excel 2003 or 2007

The template file if you are using Excel 2007 will need to be a macro enabled workbook so will need an xlsm extension. The code will not save the macro in the saved file.

    Hope this helps

    Re: Using spreadsheet as template

    Hi Anthony,
My requirement is similar to Jakes, it's just that I want to save a macro enabled template in macro format (excel 2010).
I tried changing the above code with what little knowledge I have of macros, In fact I was trying to hit it with a fluke, and this is what I got.

It works only till the "save as" screen and once I press save, it shows error "Runtime error '1004'. This extension cannot be used with selected file type and so on..
Also, with the original code, if I cancel save after the "save as" dialog box appears, it still saves false.xlsx file in the folder. A little help here would be much appreciated.
