File size abnormally increased due to macros

Recently, I notice that some of my files containing macros I created and executed, when saved (data and macros), show a file size about twice what they used to be.
It’s as if, at some point, a lot of extra material got inserted somewhere in the file; and it must be in the frame or the macros, not in the data section, for if I delete most, or all, of the data, the size remains almost as big.
My Excel is version 7 and my macros were created with earlier versions of the application, but only very recently have I noticed this sudden increase in file size.
Where could that extra material be located? And how can I delete it and prevent it from accumulating again?
    Thanks for any help.

Thank you, pike, for your twofold assistance.
I just installed and ran the addin, but that only reduced a few ks from my file. The problem, I'm afraid, must lie elsewhere.
Meanwhile, looking for that app myself, I found other tips to clear extra columns or rows or characters, which is not my problem either.

Well, anyway, thaks very much for your effort and search (I added to your reputation).
    Yours, friendly
