    Summing Data from a list

I am writing a speadsheet to sum up all the baseball stats from my son's teams games. I have five games worth of data in rows for each player for each game and at the bottom I want it to sum up all five games for each player. I need a formula that will go the the list of names and pick out "Jake" (for example) and then add the corresponding data only for the data by his name. And then I'll do the same for each boy on the list.

    Hope this makes sense...............

    Hi madmanmac,

If you could attach the file or a sample of it, I'm sure we could give you a great answer. To attach a file, click on the "Go Advanced" below the message area and then on the Paper Clip Icon above the message area to open the window to attach a sample (or real) file.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.

OK, I think I attached it. Under the "hitting" tab, you will see the data from each individual game. At the bottom I want it to sum up the data from the five games for each boy for each category. They don't always bat in the same spot in the lineup each time.

    Hi madmanmac,

Find attached your answer. Have fun with the kids. You needed this formula in Cell C77 and pull down and across.

Turns out I won't need it until next year. Yesterday afternoon, my son and some friends were goofing around at the ball field and he got hit in the with a batted ball. He has a small skull fracture but thank the Lord he will be OK. They said he was very close to having to have an operation.

Just no ball playing for six months. Baseball is both mine and his favorite sports so it will
be a wierd summer not being at his games.

But I'll save this until next season. Thanks for your help.

Perhaps you need to spend time at the ballpark doing baseball statistics.

You and your son could join a fantasy baseball league and process all the pro stats using Excel.

It might make both of you more aware of Excel's features and more employable in the future

BTW - I used to teach math and use every opportunity to get people using math and Excel.
Sorry about your son's bean ball and glad he is ok. Make Lemonaide!!

    Thanks, MarvinP.

Actually I do stats at the ballpark, I am one of the datacasters for the Arkansas Travelers. I am engineer and use Excell all the time, just wasn't sure the formula to use in this case.
