    comment in excel text box

is there anyway I can add a comment (picture) to an excel text box but NOT a photo that shows as background within the text box. I actually want a photo to appear when the cursur is moved over text within the text box. (as it does in excel cells where comments have been added) I'm using excel 2003

    Julia,
Welcome to the forum. Here is a link to show you how to do this.

Re: comment in excel text box

    Thankyou for your reply.
I actually wanted to know how to add a comment (photo) to a text box but NOT to the entire text box. Only a popup photo that shows on the side the same as if you add a comment(picture) to a cell (with the little red triangle on the side). I don't want a link to a photo to show but the actual photo itself.
I have a lot of text boxes within a worksheet of various sizes and I want a photo to appear when the curser is moved over the box (or line within the box).
I have worked out a way to get around it but it will mean transferring the info from each text box into cells, adding a multitude of columns so I can retain the same sized format across the whole sheet, then adding the comments to each(photo).
This will take forever, unless someone can suggest something else.

The Link I provided does exactly as you asked. I tested it before I sent it along. You need to create a blank comment box first and follow the instructions and you can put the photo into the comment.

Re: comment in excel text box

I'm sorry if I'm missing something here, but the link you sent me is a tutorial showing how to add a comment to a CELL. This is not what I want to do at all.
I want to add a comment into a TEXT BOX. Or to link a photo that will show as a popup link inside a TEXT BOX (not inside a cell)
I appreciate your replies and hope I'm not being a silly blonde here, but your fix doesn't appear to be on the same wave length as my question.

My bad. I did not see a reference to a user form, so I badly assumed that you were referring to cells. I have no clue as to how to do what you want but will call for some assistance from others in this forum.

Re: comment in excel text box

The only thing that I can think of is to create a message box in VBA and have it become visible when the text box gains focus and disappears when it loses focus. I am not sure how you would insert a picture into the message box, however. The other thing that comes to mind is to have a label that is not visible until the text box has focus. Your picture could be embedded in the label.

Thank you for your response. I have played around with these options when I was trying to work it out myself, but couldn't get the results I wanted. I think i'll have to go with my "long process" option. Thanks anyway.
