Re: Unable to change format to HH:MM

    Data Menu ->Text-to-column -->delimet6ed ->> date...
    Then format to HH:MM

the dates/time are treated as text that's why you can format it.

    hth.

Re: Unable to change format to HH:MM

    Hi hafeezcloud

I am not sure what you mean. The dates in your file are dates, until you reach row 521 and onwards you have a mixture of dates and text.

With reference to your other thread, which as been closed due to being a duplicate post.

The date is format is MM:DD:YY and i would like to format it to DD:MM:YY and display it as 10-Sep-2012.
The formula in the file I uploaded addresses the text dates. Please see the picture:

    hafeezcloud-Dates.jpg

As you can see in cell A521 the date is 9/13/2012 as described in your original thread. mm/dd/yyyy. In cell C521 it is as you requested, dd/mm/yyyy.

    Thank you Fotis1991

I have noticed that it is a different file you have attached to this thread. Same formula:

Re: Unable to change format to HH:MM

    Hi Kevin,

I will try and explain what i am actually looking for. Earlier on i used to select column A , right click to format cells and then go to customs any type HH:MM, i used to have the results instantly without any forumula or Text to Column option. But not its not happening so. I dont understand why it so.

I want to select Column A and then go to format cells and then custom it to HH:MM direclty.

Hope i clear now. Appreciate your response.

Re: Unable to change format to HH:MM

    Hi hafeezcloud

In post #1 of this thread, you have uploaded file named: Book20.xlsx‎

In column A: A2:A7 you have a series of dates and times. Which are text and not a number, so you can not format the text as hh:mm. For example when there is aDate/Time in a cell, if you select the cell and format as "General", there will be a serial number displayed. See attached work sheet.
