Count cells which meet the conditional formatting criteria

I have made an excel fill in the blank quiz using conditional formatting, I was wondering how to have a seperate cell on the sheet showing the total number of cells (correct answers) where the student has met the condition out of the total number possible, Thanks for any help. data validation? or something else, I have know idea but I know there is a way to do it.
