NFL Fantasy best projections with salary cap HELP

Ok so this may or may not be possible, and if it is possible, i dont know if someone is willing to help....but here we go

I want to set up a spreadsheet to get the best possible fantasy football lineup based on projections while staying under a salary cap. A salary cap is placed on each player, by position, and also has a projected point total for each player. I will only be able to have a certain amount of each player on my roster. By staying under a certain total salary cap, i want to pick the players that will provide the highest total projected points...making sense? So i would have a table with QBs that have their name, projected points, and salary. The same for RB, WR, TE, K, and DEF. I want to pull information from all these tables to a new table that will give me 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, and 1 DEF with the highest total projected points while staying under a certain total salary. Even better, if I can get different combinations to see my options...for instance, the top 5 lists based on highest projected points while staying under certain salary.

I know this is very advanced, ive been looking up things about excel solver, lookup functions...i cant seem to add it all together to do what i need....is this possible?

any help would be awesome!!!

Thank you...

Hi, welcome to the forum

Please take a moment to read the forum rules and then amend your thread title to something descriptive of your problem (think google search terms?). Once you have done this please send me a PM and I will remove this request. (Also, include a link to your thread - copy from the address bar)

Many members search our previous posts, and thread titles play a big part of the search. I doubt anybody would do a search based on your title?

To change a Title on your post, click EDIT POST then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

I don't know very much about excel. Just basic formulas so I'm not sure what specifics to ask.

I understand what you are getting at. Do you have these tables with projections on it and salaries? I assume something like for a Fanduel team. Or do you need to calculate the projections? I can probably create something based on value per dollar.

yeah basically using it for fanduel... i would have a master list of players, i could have it split up in different tables based on their position or list all players together...i will input their projected points and salaries...no formula would be needed to create a projection...the tricky part is pulling the correct number of players from each position while staying under the total salary cap...ive been doin some research for acouple days now, i thought i was getting somewhere but trying to get the best possible outcome of projected points based on salary cap is killing me! haha....

thanks for wanting to help..

after 24 hours i completed what i needed to do....self taught, how about that lol...thanks for no help from here..just kiddin...if anyone would like to see my masterpiece let me know!

it averages projected points from 3 sources and calculates the best possible combination for a FanDuel starting lineup while staying under the $60,000 salary cap...has an injury update, exclude option...very very customizeable..i love it

Re: NFL Fantasy best projections with salary cap HELP

hey lbofbb, (or anyone else who would like to help)

I'm working on something similar and could use some help. I'm not looking for the tool to optimize a lineup, but to give me every combination of rosters that are <=$60,000 based on a player pool of "x". I'm thinking the solver tool is what I need to use, but so far haven't had any luck.

Here's the data set I'm testing with.

Peyton Manning QB $10,200
Philip Rivers QB $9,100
Jay Cutler QB $8,500
Marshawn Lynch RB $9,200
Matt Forte RB $9,000
Giovani Bernard RB $8,700
Le'Veon Bell RB $8,600
Alshon Jeffery WR $7,700
Roddy White WR $7,200
Steve Smith WR $7,200
Julian Edelman WR $7,200
Desean Jackson WR $7,100
Wes Welker WR $6,800
Kendall Wright WR $6,700
Keenan Allen WR $6,700
Anquan Boldin WR $6,300
Larry Fitzgerald WR $6,300
Owen Daniels TE $5,300
Zach Ertz TE $5,200
Scott Chandler TE $5,000
Mychal Rivera TE $4,700
San Diego Chargers DEF $5,600
Arizona Cardinals DEF $5,300
Denver Broncos DEF $5,000
Detroit Lions DEF $5,000
Justin Tucker K $5,300
Phil Dawson K $5,300

Need 1 of each QB, TE, K, DEF
Need 2 of RB
Need 3 of WR

Alf - in your file, how did you get the solver to highlight the solution?

Sorry about the delay but I've had problems accessing the forum the last days.

To highlight the solution I've used "Conditional Formating". To see the rules I set up select one cell in the range B2:B201 and then click on "Conditional Formating" (home tab) and then click on "Manage Rules". Then you will see how the rules for the different colors are set up.
