    Overlapping Bars in Chart

    Hello all,

I made something to visualize a schedule.
It shows the time a truck comes in and how late it goes out.

Now i'd like to add an extra bar to the chart that shows how late the truck needs to ready.

I attached the file to this thread.
I drawed the new bars to the chart to give an idea of what I'm looking for.
The data for the new bars are mentioned in range T2:T3

    No answers so far...
Does this mean that it is not possible?
If not please tell me, than I'll have to look for another way.

If the "overlap" is not possible than it will suffice if the "time in" starts were "extra" ends.

    Jonathan,

see attached for the new chart below the one you drew manually. I added T2:T3 as a new data series and formatted this with a semi-transparent fill.

It looks like the chart/drawing you show. Does that help?

    Still one question.
I don't understand the values on the Axis scale.

Which figures do I have to tinker with to change the start en end time on the value axis.
I'd like it to start at 05 and end at 23.

    Re: Overlapping Bars in Chart

Your axis is a time axis. The minimum and maximum values are times, and the major units are time values (hours) as well.

To understand the formatting of the axis, you need to get an understanding of how Excel handles time and date. Internally, time is stored in Excel as a decimal number. A date is a whole number, and a time is stored in decimals of that full number.

The number 1 in date format is Jan-1-1900, 0:00 am. 1,5 is half a day later, i.e. Jan-1-1900 12 noon. So, 0.5 is half a day, or 12 hours. Hence one hour is 0.041666667, 0.25 is 6 hours, etc. A little overview with regards to the values set in your chart axis:

Please Login or Register to view this content.
The minimum value on the axis is 6 am, or 0.25. The maximum value is midnight, or 0:00 of the next day, or 1 in General number format. The major unit of the axis is one hour or 0.041666667 in general format.

    does that make it clearer?

teylyn, is there a way to get that overlay to have a start time and end time? I see the overlay ends at the times given under the "EXTRA" table. How would I make the overlay start at a given time, other than 6am?
