Thermometer Chart Not Translucent

I am using the Thermometer template that was suggested on my other thread (from Andy Pope).

It works great, except that the thermometer is not translucent and overlaps the "Mercury" bar.

Is there a solution for this? It's not the case in the template, but I can't figure out how to "bring the mercury forward" so that it shows through the thermometer like the example.

I keep meaning to change the instructions in the file as a patch to excel over the years causes the transparency to fail.

You need to select the image. Hold the shift key and use menu Edit > Copy Picture. Copy as Bitmap.
Paste the image, then using the Transparency tool from the Picture toolbar click on the White colour.

Now select the image whilst holding the Shift key and Edit > Copy Picture. Copy as Picture. Select data series and Paste.
