Upgrading from 2000 to 2007, Compatibility?

I will soon be upgrading from 2000 to 2007. Someone said that any workbook with VBA coding will have problems? Someone else said that if there is macros, I will need to convert them first into xlsm files? From there do I convert to xlsx files?
I thought the VBA language was fairly consistant. Are there specific objects/methods/formats that I need to be wary of?
I do not have 2007 yet but need to be ready as I have a large number of spreadsheets.
    Thanks in advance.

    xlsx - data only
xlsm - contains data and or macros

The new file version means that if you have code you will need to use the xlsm version. You can save as xlsx but the code will be removed.

Whether your code works in xl2007 is really dependent upon what your code does. The major areas of change in the OM for objects that were around in xl2000 are the Shapes and Charts. These are both new for 07.

Colours/themes are also a new area that may cause problems.

Thanks Andy. Most of my macros are fairly simple so I will give it the wait and see approach and keep my fingers crossed. Interesting that MS decided to break files into the two catagories; those containing macros and those that don't. I guess that can be useful at a glance but will take some getting used to.

I'd be sure to keep both versions installed until you've tested all your important workbooks, Chemist.

The FileSearch method went away in 2007.

Thanks shg. I'm pretty sure I haven't used "Filesearch" in any of my macros.

You can download a 60 day trial of Office 2007
    Hope that helps.

I can't use my add-ins from earlier versions. The error messages direct me to search for a vba converter at microsoft.com. But I can't find one there.

This thread asks the same question:
